It is difficult to tinker with a time-honored tradition-and perhaps none more so than that which is held most sacrosanct by many:  The Wedding.

MangoRed has managed to bring something new-maybe not to the ritual itself-but to the way it is immortalized.

Headed by brothers Randall and Ryan Dagooc, MangoRed is a group of photographers, illustrators, and graphic artists specializing in nuptial photography. They seem to take delight in mixing and matching graphic design, illustrations, and traditional photography to produce albums custom-designed to tell the individual tales of each wedding.
In truth, when we were starting out, we weren’t really confident with our photography skills,” they say humbly. ”We figured that the illustrations/graphics would serve as supporting storytelling elements to the photographs. Also, we wanted to refuse the imposed limits. It made us look differently, and think differently. No one bothered us and no one cared which I think is very vital at the formative stages of conceptualization. So in a sense, we were courting failure, but you have to expect that when you’re innovating.

Their albums are by turns grandiose, whimsical, edgy, and intimate-all without sacrificing that most vital ingredient of a wedding: the love and romance in the air. ”We had to contend with the ‘tenderness’ part of the industry,” the brothers concede. ”But we challenged the cliché of romance and beauty. We’ve sort of taken an anti-romantic stance. We didn’t want to emphasize the obvious. Humor and hipness are thrown in for good measure. It has brightness and joy…some are sad…but romantic and hopeful.”

Each album also has its own flavor and character, no easy, feat considering weddings have the same basic acts, roles, and players. ”Bringing out something different from every wedding is not that hard. We closely correspond with our clients. We kick off with an informal dialogue to know more about their range and their interests. Their personality has to surface onto the design.”

Weddings are both personal and universal,” the brothers continue. “ We’ve always approached every wedding with a sense of wonderment and adventure to go and see and interpret.” Ultimately, this is perhaps what sets MangoRed’s albums apart : the marriage of tale-as-old-as-time with singular love story.
